keytype is a free typing speed test and touch typing trainer. Measure your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy in real time, with no sign-up and no ads. Whether you are preparing for a typing test for a job, practising touch typing, or just want to type faster, keytype gives you instant feedback on every session.
The test mode runs a timed WPM typing test over 30, 60 or 120 seconds; the learn mode is an adaptive typing tutor that teaches the touch typing method starting from the home row and targets your weakest key in every word; the quotes mode lets you practise with real sentences for natural muscle memory; the custom mode lets you practise typing your own text; and the code mode is a typing practice for programmers with real syntax from popular programming languages.
The average person types around 40 WPM. Reaching 60 to 80 WPM saves hours of work every week and is the speed expected for most office and data entry roles, while 100+ WPM is professional level. Higher accuracy means less backspacing, which makes you even faster.
Touch typing — using all ten fingers without looking at the keyboard — is the most effective way to type faster. The live keyboard visualization in keytype trains your eyes to read text instead of your hands, and short daily practice sessions build muscle memory faster than occasional long ones.
