Three typing practice modes

keytype offers three distinct modes to match every stage of your typing journey.

Test mode — a standard timed WPM typing test. Choose 30, 60 or 120 seconds, type the displayed words as fast and accurately as you can, and receive a detailed result showing WPM, accuracy, character count and errors. Personal bests are saved per language so you always know your record.
Learn mode — an adaptive touch typing trainer built for beginners and intermediate typists. It starts with the home-row keys (A S D F for the left hand, J K L ; for the right hand) and progressively unlocks more keys as your accuracy reaches the required threshold. A weak-key indicator highlights the letter where you make the most mistakes and ensures every generated word contains that key, so you practise your weakest point in every session.
Quotes mode — practice typing real sentences from famous quotes. Unlike random word lists, quotes contain punctuation, mixed capitalization and natural sentence rhythm, which builds more realistic muscle memory for everyday typing tasks such as writing emails, documents or code.

1. Introduction

Keytype ("we", "our", "the Service") is a free online typing trainer available at keytype.pro. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

2. Using Keytype without an account

You can use most of Keytype's features — typing tests, lessons, quotes, custom text, code practice — without creating an account. In this case, your settings and progress (words per minute, accuracy, streaks, daily goals) are stored only in your browser's local storage, on your own device. We do not receive or store this information on our servers, and it is not shared with anyone.

3. Creating an account

If you choose to create an account (by email, Google, or GitHub), we collect and store:

Your email address
Basic profile information provided by the sign-in method (name, in the case of Google/GitHub sign-in)
A nickname (auto-generated at first sign-in, editable by you)
Optional profile information you choose to add: a short bio and a self-selected country flag
Your typing test results and progress (words per minute, accuracy, session counts, streaks) — used to sync your progress across devices

4. Public information

If you create an account, the following becomes publicly visible to anyone visiting the Service (this is a core feature of the Service — a public leaderboard and public profile pages):

Your nickname
Your bio and country flag, if you choose to set them
Your typing statistics and, if eligible, your position on the public leaderboard

We do not display your email address publicly under any circumstances.

5. How we use your Google account data (Sign in with Google)

If you sign in using Google, we request only the minimum information needed to create and identify your account (your name and email address). We use this data solely to:

Create and authenticate your Keytype account
Display your name-derived nickname within the Service

We do not use your Google account data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not share it with third parties except as necessary to operate the Service (see Section 6). We do not request access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or any other Google service — only basic sign-in information.

6. Third-party service providers

We use the following third-party services to operate Keytype. Each processes only the data necessary for its function:

Supabase (hosted in the EU) — database, authentication, and account management
Resend — sending transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
Google / GitHub — optional sign-in providers, at your choice
Vercel — website hosting and basic, aggregated usage analytics (e.g., page views, performance metrics). This analytics data is not linked to your account or used to identify you individually.
Cloudflare — used solely to determine, in real time, whether a visitor is located in Russia, in order to comply with local legal requirements regarding foreign authentication services. This check is not stored or logged against your account.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising purposes.

7. Data retention

We retain your most recent 365 typing test results per account. Your aggregated statistics (best/average scores, streaks) are retained for as long as your account exists.

8. Your rights

You can, at any time, from your account settings:

Edit or remove your nickname, bio, and country flag
Clear your statistics and progress
Permanently delete your account. This immediately and permanently removes your account and all associated data (profile, statistics, leaderboard entries) from our systems. This action cannot be undone.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you additionally have the right to request a copy of your data or ask us questions about how it is processed — contact us at keytype.pro@gmail.com.

9. Children's privacy

Keytype is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under this age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Local storage and cookies

Keytype uses your browser's local storage to remember your settings and (for users without an account) your progress. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
